After a brief description of the early Universe and cosmological inflation, I introduce modified gravity in higher-dimensional (D>4) spacetimes, and its flux compactification from D=8 to D=4. A (volume) modulus stabilization together with a viable (Starobinsky-like) cosmological inflation in D=4 are achieved.
